Project title: „Manifest for a clean city”
Short description: the project creates the premises to develop among students a civic behavior regarding the environment protection. This aim may be achieved through information on pollution and its forms, by strengthening the capacity of teachers to hold working sessions on environment protection as subjects of civic education. The project responds to the need for information that currently exists in the education system, the need being justified by the large capacity of the students’ involvement and possibility to determine long-term favorable behavior. The environment education is one of the new dimensions of the education. It focuses on the fundamental objective that aims the knowledge of the importance of protecting and preserving the environment, rational exploitation of the natural resources and imposition of a positive attitude from the public.
The environment education topics can be addressed in school activities at all levels, but also in extracurricular activities. By this, it is aimed to reach an attitude of responsibility towards the ecosystem in the younger generation.
Environment education should develop an attitude of respect and responsibility towards nature in the community, an attitude of protecting it.
In accordance with the foregoing and given the fact that the elements of environment education are present in all activities, especially in the environment knowledge, we considered it necessary a project on environment education of one year (12 months) long.
On this basis our project aims to raise the awareness of the pupils within the educational extracurricular activities.
The project aims to:
- Create the premises to develop an environment protection civic behavior among students. This is achieved through information on pollution and its forms, strengthening the teachers’ capacity to hold working sessions on environment protection as subjects of civic education. The project responds to the need for information that currently exists in the education system, the need being justified by the large capacity of the students’ involvement and possibility to determine long-term favorable behavior.
- Establish and equip a centre for environment information called “Casa Verde” located in one of the high schools or school groups that are involved in the project’s implementation. This point of environment information will be coordinated by a team of students and teachers under the direction of the school inspector and be available to all students and teachers.
- Collect information and write brochures, flyers, a magazine, necessary to project’s implementation but also to the subsequent operation of the environment information point.
- Release a guide on environment protection, sustainable development and social responsibility.
- Develop some specific skills to some students and teachers directly involved in the project’s implementation (the 12 action groups that will be formed).
The duration of the project: 01.09.2009-01.09.2010
The project has the following activities:
- organization of 3 trainings for the action groups: Fundamental notions on environment protection; The latest concepts and achievements on ecology in the world; Case studies, examples, simulations;
- selecting, editing the materials and printing the brochures, flyers and magazine:
- Brochure 1: entitled - ,,Health of our environment”
- Brochure 2: entitled - ,,Manifest for cleaning”
- Brochure 3: entitled - „Protected by law, protected by humans”
- Brochure 4: entitled - ,,Education for sustainable development”
- Flyer 1: entitled - ,,The main sources of local pollution“
- Flyer 2: entitled - ,,Government and NGOs involved in environmental protection“

- - organizing 2 actions to aware and inform the students from the schools of Severin and the population in general: Earth Day ( 22 aprilie ), The Parks’ European Day ( 24 may).
